Anyway, if you can handle heavyweight books in English...

A Suitable Boy, by Vikram Seth

And White Mhugals, by ? Dalrympal (Can't remember his first name).

Both set in India, as it happens and both absolutely awsome books n I'm gonna read them again someday - when I can get new copies... cos I had to give the originals away!

Oh... also Hey Joe! By some American guy. Can't remember his name atm but it is available in National Book Store and it's another excellent read.

DUDE! The Alchemist! sobrang redeeming! andami kong natutunan! prologue pa lang (yung about Narcissus), astig na! Im planning to get Coelho's The Pilgrimage kaso out of stock pa raw... pero sobrang galing nya magsulat. parang nagsesermon sayo in a very poetic manner... lufet talaga....

I've just finished reading "Anak ng Lupa" and I've just started on "Bulaklak ng Maynila" by Doming G. Landicho. Bulaklak seems promising and Anak ng Lupa was quite good. (Hope I'm not offending anyone here...)!!

What I really want though, is a nice thick heavy book with a real epic storey and plenty of Philippine history. It has to be written in Tagalog though...
(Even if I can't understand half of it)!!!

magaganda din mga book ni Lualhati Bautista... i would recommend reading it more than watching novel-based flicks...

one of my favorites na self-help book ay ang "Being Happy" by Andrew Matthews. great illustrations...the author gives very incisive and straightforward situations and advices for a great self-confidence and security...it's one of the best-selling books ever, translated into different languages. may tagalog version na, di ko pa nabasa. costs about P300-350 yata.

my most recent favorite is "All Too Human" by George Stephanopoulous..ang galing! this is the story of the man behind Bill Clinton's genius, bloopers, and...downfall as Clinton's communications director and eventually, senior political adviser. ang galing! he will usher you into the exciting, thrilling scenes behind clinton's presidency...divulging dark, not-so-nice secrets that lie within the historical rooms of the white house. it is a young man's struggle for power and idealism - whether to stand by your president because u believe in his capabilities and intentions, or to forget about idealism after discovering the lies the president has fed u just to remain in power and enjoy the fame.  the author not only narrates his successes working that closely with the most powerful man in the world, but also gives clear and funny narration of his insecurities and mistakes...he's just all too human. nakaka-relate din ako sa trabaho nya... 8)

Writer ng One Hundred Years of Solitude ay si Gabriel Marquez, He's a Nobel Prize winner so for sure maganda at may laman ang gawa niya.

Parang taboo ang istorya nito sa mga Japanese officials  noon kasi linalabas lahat dun ang pang-to-torture nila and lahat ng morbid acts nila towards the country they occupied. I forgot the author, pero she's a Japanese and curiosity was the reason why she wrote the book. She wanted to prove that the Rape of Nanking did happened.
        -----Did you know that there are more deaths that happened in the Rape of Nanking than the deaths that happened  in Hitler's regime In Germany? Read the book. And learn more.

 :thumb: WHEN THE WIND BLOWS by James Patterson- it is sci-fic story. It is about mutated humans. They are being experimented to become superior both in physical and mental aspects. Children are given wings! As in they could fly!!!!!

 :thumb: YOUNGBLOOD 2.0- it is a collection of essays. Contributors are from earlys teens up to mid 20's. Witty, inteligent, interesting.

 :thumb: DANIELLE STEEL. She has a lot of great works, but those I will always remember are DADDY, LEAP OF FAITH, ONCE IN A LIFETIME, STAR, ZOYA. She's my all-time favorite.

 :thumb: HUNCHBACK OF NOTREDAME by Alexander Dumas- maganda lang talaga siya, you'll love it better kung babasahin mo lang. Di maganda yung movie.

I have to say, this is one of the best books I have ever read...

Just finished reading it. It completely re-writes the history books in so far as the Western world did not discover anything! (Just about everywhere the great explorers of the 15th century went - they were following in the wake of the Chinese).

This an incredibly interesting and well researched book and I really like Gavin Menzies' style of writing. Thoroughly enjoyable and very hard to put down!

White Fluffy Clouds by Brandon Boyd. yes, the vocalist of the band Incubus. collection of poetry, art, inspirational stuff, etc.

Blindness by Jose Saramago (what if everyone suddenly became blind? creepy...)

i'm into love stories  kaya okey talaga yung mga works ni nicholas sparks. a walk to remember at yung the notebook da best talaga.  pero kung typer mo yung talagang maiyak ka, try The georgian love story.  grabe ubos luha mo talaga.  Nabili ko nga lng yun sa booksale e. ewan ko llng kung meron pa cla.   kung type mo nman mga classics, try little women at little men.  wag yung kay shakespeare, too good to be true.  

Okey din mga inspirational books ha.  Try Gods little devotional book for teens at yung mga books about our guardian angels.  grabe, it will give you goosebumps talaga.

and lastly, yung mga nabibiling readers digest condensed books.  Lalo na pag nagtitipid u, 50 pesos lang four to five novels na.  Hindi pa basta basta yung mga stories.  nakakamangha. :lol:  :)  :grin:  :angel:  :crazyeye: [/b]

The Waking Ice, A Collection of Poems by Ricardo de Ungria--- Di ako mahilig sa poetry, pero maganda ito, promise. Pity flowed down into my whole system after reading all of the poems written by a father to his drug dependent son who commited suicide. Manipis lang sya kaya kayang kayang basahin sa isang upuan.

not much foa reader, but there was one of the few books i read na kahit hindi best seller and seemingly unexceptional pero truly captured my heart and made a mark for me. it's The Secret Diary of Adrien Mole aged 13 1/2, it's no Ann Frank but us guys can relate to it like we've writtenit ourselves.

what i really like is ung mga whodunit, ska suspense na novels. mga works tlaga nila agatha christie (Hercule poirot, Jane Marple, Parker Pyne, etc na series nya), erle stanley gardner (perry mason series), mga books ni John grisham, christopher pike (lalo na ung season of passage, asteeg!!!), etc.

i also like books written by paolo coehlo, og mandino, bo sanchez, etc.

i also like classics like yung annakarenina by tolstoy (astig), divine comedy by dante, midsummernights dream, hamlet, etc. by shakespeare, sherlock holmes by arthur conan doyle, iliad and oddysey ni homer, the catcher in the rye by salinger saka mga works ni edgar allan poe.

I just finished Dan Brown’s “Of Angels and Demons”. Si Dan din yung author ng “Da Vinci Code” which generated quite a bit of a controversy with Catholics. And before that, I breezed through “The Goal” by Eli Goldratt.

I also like Isaac Asimov’s series of “Foundation” books which, incidentally, formed the basis for Will Smith’s recent movie “I Robot”. Also, Ayn Rand’s classic “Atlas Shrugged” was a real eye-opening experience.

I’d have to agree with a previous poster that the YoungBlood series is great for a more real and immediately relevant, if not inspiring, perspective… I thought of submitting an article to them once, several years ago, but didn’t push through.

now at the last 2 chapters of The Secret. okay naman. a little awakening but nothing new or "secret", really. it's just a recognition/ confirmation of some "laws" i've already applied in some aspects of my life, but needs implementation and consistency - just like other laws and rules set by men, feng shui experts or date doctors.  :)  nonetheless, i still think it is a useful tool, thanks to the bestseller list and people who swear by it. (ayan, ina-apply na ang law of gratitude. ;D)

mas gusto ko na teen fic tungkol sa transgender yung Hard Love ni Ellen Wittlinger. writers kasi yung mga character. Marisol, idol! 8) pero si John aka Giovani rito ang narrator. dun naman sa companion book niya, Love & Lies, si Marisol ang bida.

yung isa pang YA fic about lesbian ni Wittlinger, Parrotfish, di ko naituloy.
